2021.10.22 06:40 Maccami A bit of advice on a new relationship
I (26F) recently went on a few dates with a guy (26M). He is sweet, we laughed a lot and have a lot in common, so on the second date we went to my place after a few drinks and had sex. As every first time with a new person it was kind of clumsy and he didn't finished. He then admitted that it's been a while for him and as we were both a bit drunk, I didn't think much of it.
Fast forward a couple of days, we went out for dinner and then back to my place. Once again, we had sex and he didn't finished. We talked about it after, and he admitted that I was the first person he had sex with, so he did not really know what he liked
I must admit, I was kind of shocked (and a bit sad he didn't tell me at first), but it doesn't really matter. He said he was ashamed of it and that's why he didn't warned me. I told him we were in a safe space and he could share anything with me about that.
I feel good when I'm with him and I want to keep seeing him. But I also want him to feel comfortable with me, whether in bed or outside (I think the outside part is going pretty well)
Do you have advice on what I can do to make him feel comfortable sharing with me? Is it common on first times?

2021.10.22 06:40 Joey_Oysters0125 The Batman (2022) looks terrible...
This movie looks like it could be the biggest "Bomb" of all time. The reaction to the most recent trailer is so over the top even if it were a decent movie (it won't be) people would be disappointed based on their already high expectations. The casting for this movie is absolutely terrible! "The Batman" might even be worse then George Clooneys Batman films in the casting department. Batman looks pathetic, Bruce looks like an animic emo while every other main character is so poorly portraid It's hard to tell who the heck they're supposed to be until the movie tells you. The Batmobile looks like its from a parallel universe where Bruce Wayne is dirt poor. The only character that didn't make me cringe was The Riddler and thats probably only because he was shown the least in the trailer, still have no clue what he's going to look like but I doubt I'll be disappointed (my expectations already are extremely low). The only thing that was top notch was the music used for the trailer. You could play that music during a video of someone mowing their lawn and it would look amazing!

2021.10.22 06:40 nostalgia_series I feel so sad and alone, I don’t even know if it’s worth it anymore [F20]
For the past few months specifically, I have been struggling with family related problems, life direction issues, and mainly friendship issues.
I don’t really have many friends anymore, all my friendships are falling apart. I have some friends here and there that I’m not that close to and don’t connect with as much, my friendships with my close friends all feel one sided, and I have limited opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. I don’t really have a proper group of friends anymore that I can talk to and make plans with. I feel really sad when I’m on social media and see people with their group of friends, or when I hear about these outings. I just wish I had some sort of group of friends and some stability within my friendships.
My family problems don’t directly affect me, but I see the way that it affects my parents and it hurts to see. I’m in uni but I don’t know what I’m doing. I cant focus on it as much anymore before because I’m so consumed by this sadness. I spend hours every week crying and upset and unable to do anything. I’ve lost my appetite and my personality and it just feels like nothing is every going to get better. I feel so alone and I don’t know how I can ever turn my life around. Any advice would be appreciated.

2021.10.22 06:40 Razer97 What are your honest opinions on the so called DPDR gurus and their products?
Personally I've watched some of Shaun O'Conors stuff and read his manual, it's pretty much garbage honestly and just general life advice which anyone can give. I didn't pay for it, of course. Shaan Kassam comes off as a bit condescending and charges way too much. Jordan Hardgrave seems a bit fine but honestly they're kinda overpriced for anecdotal evidence of recovery.
Jordan's tips are pretty good but the notion that all people are virtually guaranteed to fully recover if they follow the particular course is kinda weird. The included legalistic disclaimers saying that the advice is not a substitute for psychiatric care and licensed mental health professionals but it almost seems that you are supposed to ignore that disclaimer and jump feet first into this particular brand of kool aid.
I don't know how justified charging 100 bucks for a course is which again sells a recovery plan merely based off his own ancedotal experience.
Not to mention most of these recovery gurus don't have any actual psychiatric or any medical qualifications which take years of study and practice, peddling their plan based on the notion that it worked for them personally and thus is guaranteed to work for you too. Forgive my scepticism but a sample size of one doesn't reassure me too much.
There's little research included about the neurochemical or biological reasons that give cause to DP/DR and seen to merely espouse a "chin up" attitude as the key to recovery.
I'm not hating on anyone, I don't think they are full blown charlatans, I'm just a little suspicious of these courses titled guides and manuals to wrap them in a fancy covering, written by individuals with little to no formal training and which are priced at a ridiculously high price point compared to actual books written by medical licenced professionals with years of clinical experience behind them.
Anyway, congrats to these people and others of their ilk for being able to make a living as motivational gurus but it can't be denied that there is a really strong and almost predatory element of profiting off people's desperation and suffering for recovery with these overpriced guides that aren't guaranteed to work for everyone.
Doctors and specialists with decades of clinical experience still have have troubles with finding a strong evidence based approach that integrates plenty of practices, both physical and mental, emotional so it seems a tad disingenuous for these gurus to virtually guarantee recovery in their guides. Wouldn't it be a bit more honest if they stated Try my guide, it worked for me, it might work for you too. But then again it's based off on a personal recovery for one specific person and can't be generalized to work on many because there are multiple comorbidities with anxiety, depression and neurochemistry defects. So it doesn't really justify the overpriced guides based on anecdotal evidence. Plus it's profiting off the suffering of others by people with no real medical or psychological/psychiatric experience and just relaxing and calming the body doesn't work when you need to go for a holistic approach featuring both mental and physical, emotional therapy plus including the actual biological elements which require medication. And the notion of making a business around it just tells you that they simply want your money and there's no guarantee it could even make it better or in fact worsen it. At best they are an auxiliary tool to work with while going into actual therapy and psychiatric help.
I've tried Jordan's advice on body relaxation and whatnot but it hasn't even made a serious dent in it. Only brought some obsession for self-regulation and relaxing at one point which passed and now casually doing that. Doesn't help with body tremors, headaches and shivering at all. It did get better by the 6th month but it wasn't because of his so called techniques which try to oversimplify and imitate Peter Levine's or Bessel van der Kolk's works which are professional and you need a therapist for them to work. Or Jordan's notion that EMDR isn't helpful for recovery and just his body based approach does the trick or that actual counseling and therapy for dissociative disorders ain't that effective.
If we're supposed to be moving on with our lives and not overthinking about it then why would anyone buy the courses which would make you obsess over relaxing and self-regulation every second. There are legit mental health advocates on there like The Holistic Psychologist, Dr Tracy Marks or Irene Lyon but in a culture that relies on quick fixes, or rather hopes for a quick fix, it's not unusual that these "gurus" have a great number of followers. Unfortunately, their "solutions" are short lived, and people end up feeling dissapointed, while others end up a couple of hundred bucks short on top of that. Harris Harrington I won't comment upon because at least his narrative integration writing did help me actually.
Plus how exactly are they trained in mental health service? It's just exploitation by non-professional, non-licensed people on the net trying to make a buck off our suffering. Sorry for the ranting but what are your honest opinions on these people, same for the Big Know No guy? I'll probably get attacked by some Hardgrave fans but it's fine. So what do you think?

2021.10.22 06:40 nowcreatives [Job] Can you script edit a malevolent alien advising humans in power? [YouTube channel]
We are in the process of creating a "malevolent alien advises" channel at our agency Now Creatives. We have over 5.5+ billion views on the videos we've edited on YouTube. And have multiple YouTube channels (here's one - received 8k new subscribers on Wednesday)
We're looking for a script editor who can take our concept scripts about manipulation, psychology, human behaviour, and power - and give them an alien voice. A character that feels alive. An alien character. The ideal applicant is someone who would love to be part of a new, successful YouTube channel. Also, an artist who would enjoy creating entertainment that educates about psychology!
The position will be paid $100-160/week for 3 YouTube Short scripts (200-250 words per script). The rate depends on if you're just editing scripts we've already done ($100), or if you develop the topic yourself too ($160). Additionally, if you help lead the brand of the alien overall (beyond just writing) - you can receive a percentage of other revenue sources (Adsense earnings, Patreon, etc.). These could become significant over time.
Here's a job page to explain more (and where to apply): https://nowcreatives.com/nowcreative_job/script-writer-malevolent-alien
The overall aim for how the alien will come across is mysterious, yet also has a human familiarity to him as well. The Netflix documentary series How To Be A Tyrant is the closest example.
There's a 1-minute script editing test to do if you're interested - so please check the above job post link (you can find the script to edit there) and leave a comment below. We'll provide a $50 USD prize for our favourite script edit. It should take 30 mins-1hr to do (editing a script of 250 words). The deadline for submitting the script edit is EOD 25th October. We're launching the channel in early November.
Thank you! Oliver Founder of Now Creatives
